EU regulation on personal data, in force since 2018. Forces any site collecting EU user data to respect 7 principles (explicit consent, minimization, right to erasure, etc.).
Context and application
GDPR applies to any site processing personal data of EU users — even if the company is from the US, Asia, anywhere. Penalties up to 4% of annual global turnover. For SEO consultants, the critical part is Art. 28 — Data Processing Agreement (DPA) with each sub-processor (SaaS tool, hosting, analytics).
