Sitemap doesn’t guarantee indexing, only speeds up discovery. For sites under 500 pages, Googlebot discovers them anyway through internal links. Becomes useful over 1,000 pages or when you have semantically isolated subsections. Common mistake: sitemap containing 404, redirected, or noindex URLs — signals Google that you don’t keep your house in order.
