Extended definition
Set of 3 Google metrics for web performance: LCP, INP, CLS. Ranking factor since 2021.
Context and application
Core Web Vitals aren’t the only performance factor, but they’re the only ones with explicit Google thresholds and direct impact on ranking. Data comes from Chrome User Experience Report (CrUX) — your real numbers collected by Chrome browsers from real users, NOT synthetic tests. This means lab data (local Lighthouse) can differ from field data (CrUX). For ranking, field data matters. Optimizations that look good in lab but bad in field (e.g., super-fast server for you, slow for real users on 4G) don’t help SEO.
